Zone Alarm Version 5 Removal

Reading through the pages of this forum, I am amazed that Zone Labs are not yet the subject of a class action regarding the Zone Alarm version 5 releases. I was caught out too and it took several hours to fix the resulting damage – system file corruption – done to an installation of Windows XP by just upgrading Zone Alarm from v.4.5 to v.5. In the end I managed to fully uninstall Zone Alarm only by using the instructions given here. So if by chance you are thinking of installing Zone Alarm v.5, or are about to upgrade to it, I sincerely recommend that you do not.
