Jade Goody Is More Than Just A Name

You know, until fairly recently I knew extremely little about Jade Goody. I had heard the name mentioned a few times, and that was about it. This is not particularly surprising as I am not UK based.

Recently though, her name being mentioned became impossible to ignore, such was the frequency of it, and so I had a look at just who and what this person was. It wasn’t difficult, a search for her name in Google gives 1.5 million results.

A single page on Wikipedia sort of attempts to sum her up on the first line;

Jade Cerisa Lorraine Goody (born 5 June 1981) is a British celebrity.

But she is much more than just that, isn’t she?

She is also a girl who came from nothing, a young woman who fought her way to fame and some fortune, a mother of two very young kids, only twenty-eight years old and a human being who is very likely dying.

I guess the point of this post is that it seems to me that everyone – press and public – has followed her life, for good and bad, for so long that they appear to have forgotten that ‘Jade Goody’ is not just a brand, it’s the name of a human, too.

There are plenty of people who’s death might actually be a good thing for the world, but Jade Goody is really not one of them.

I wish her all the strength, luck and positive vibes that she needs as she fights back against the cancer.

And so should you.
