Art For Feet

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

I was looking around the intertubes for a new pair of boots, and by chance happened across what are probably the most artistic looking shoes and boots that I have ever seen, just one example of which is shown below.

New Rock Boots

New Rock Boots

They are made by a company named New Rock, which seems to consist of a family of shoemakers in Spain that have been making boots and shoes for several generations.

I have no idea what the prices are like – though I have a feeling that they are probably of the ‘If you need to ask…’ variety – but whatever the cost, for boots that nice looking they are probably worth it.

The only problem I have is that the boots they make are completely impractical for what I need my new boots to do, so I have bought some of these instead.

However, the next time that I am in the market for some new motorcycle boots I know now where I will be buying them from, whatever they cost.

Tumblr Photosets

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Just in case I wasn’t already a big fan of the Tumblr.com service (and staff), today they have unleashed new photoset functionality that has so much potential usefulness that it is making my head spin. As they themselves say;

“If a picture is worth a thousand words, photosets are the future of books.”

Indeed, and add to the new photoset function the already existing ability to have multiple ‘Tumblelogs’, then sprinkle in some customisation tags, and, well, pretty quickly it becomes a case of wondering just what can’t be done with it all.

I have no time to experiment tonight, but sometime over the next week photosets are going to get a serious workout. Oh, yes.

Mid-Year Redesign 2009

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

It’s hot, I’m taking a break, I’m in front of two computers, and one is a Mac.

Redesign time.

Done.

~ For future reference, long after this design is gone and forgotten, this redesign can be remembered as ‘the white type on the blue background redesign’.

Just for good measure, I have given micro.rogilife.com the same treatment, too.

Expensive, But Worthless?

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Earlier this morning I noticed an interesting photo gallery in the UK’s Daily Telegraph; A collection of the most expensive and most worthless items in the world.

All of the items shown are without a doubt expensive, but as for them all being ultimately worthless? I’m not so sure.

This watch, for example.

DualTow watch by Christophe Claret

The DualTow watch by Christophe Claret retails for $300,000, but it only displays the time to the nearest five minutes’. As the people behind the blog say: “So you’re paying for a, seemingly, needlessly complicated watch that doesn’t actually tell you the correct time.”

Does only being able to tell the time to within five minutes make that watch worthless? Not in my opinion.

And would I like one of those watches myself?  Yes I would.
