Pointless Puffer Fish

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

My ‘completely missing the point’ award of 2009 goes to the Japanese scientists who have now bred non-poisonous Puffer Fish.

Guys, the entire point of eating Puffer Fish/torafugu is?

Quite.

Web: Portuguese Recipe Blog

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Just a quick pointer to an excellent foody blog featuring Portuguese recipes:

–> As Minhas Receitas. (Portuguese language only).

It’s written by a lady who lives not far from me, and she posts up seriously nice recipes that are not difficult to make, or to find the ingredients for.

A great resource for foodies and cooks, especially at this time of the year.

Peixe em Lisboa 2009

Peixe em Lisboa 2009

For some reason I have had a craving for eating fish recently. This would be easy enough to fix if I knew all about fish and the eating of said things, but I don’t.

My problem is that in general I don’t know which fish are considered good, which are average and which are not worth trying. Trickier still is that even when fish names and descriptions are written in English I still don’t know what is what, and when they are written in Portuguese, well, then I really don’t have a clue.

Anyway, I just noticed that this event is going to take place in a couple of weeks;

Peixe Em Lisboa.

Here is what they say it will offer;

For nine days, Lisbon fish & flavours will allow all visitors the appreciation of innovative cuisine creations based on fish and seafood in a relaxed environment that invites you to share it between family and friends.

When you enter into Lisbon fish & flavours you may also participate in major cuisine presentations; experience the best restaurants in the region and the work of great chefs; enjoy entertainment and live music; read a book or taste a good wine

Sounds interesting, and I can quite happily see myself sitting in Lisbon in the sunshine munching some well cooked fish.

Times and dates are as follows:

PEIXE EM LISBOA (Lisbon fish & flavours)

2009 Edition | 18 – 26 April

Pavilhão de Portugal – Parque das Nações

Everyday from 12:00am ‘till 12:00pm
Sunday April 26th from 12:00am ‘till 7:00pm

If I can, I’ll see you there.

(Do) Go To Work On An Egg

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

This is not surprising news to me.

“It is OK to go to work regularly on an egg, health experts said today as they attempted to dispel “the ingrained misconception” among consumers and some health professionals that people should eat no more than three a week because of the “myth” surrounding the food’s link to cholesterol in the blood.”

The reason it is not surprising to me is because I have a nutritionist, I eat two eggs a day, and my blood tests almost always show near perfect levels of everything – including cholesterol(s).

Here’s the full story of why eggs should not be considered a bad food.

And, yes, I am also having trouble believing that I am writing about eggs, but someone has to do it.
