The first is Minimodi from Gothenburg, Sweden. Varied subjects, consistently high quality. Click on each image to go to the following image.

The second is City Snaps from San Francisico. Mostly urban work, also of consistently high quality. A great example is this; Hanging Around, which is very nearly a perfect black and white shot, in my opinion.

There are far too many images between the two for me to possibly point out all of my personal favourites – so grab a coffee, sit back, and go see for yourself.

I used to have a fair measure of respect for AA Gill. His writing style is interesting, as, I thought, was his attitude to the world that he finds himself in.

However if this story is true;

Gill wrote: “I took him just below the armpit. He slumped and slid sideways. I’m told they can be tricky to shoot: they run up trees, hang on for grim life. They die hard, baboons. But not this one. A soft-nosed .357 blew his lungs out.”

And this really is the sole reason that he shot that Baboon;

“I wanted to get a sense of what it might be like to kill someone, a stranger. You see it in all those films: guns and bodies, barely a close-up of reflection or doubt. What does it really feel like to shoot someone, or someone’s close relative?”

Well then I cannot remember ever losing my respect for anyone as fast as I have just lost my respect for AA Gill.

That’s all, really, I have nothing further to add.

I was looking around the intertubes for a new pair of boots, and by chance happened across what are probably the most artistic looking shoes and boots that I have ever seen, just one example of which is shown below.

New Rock Boots

They are made by a company named New Rock, which seems to consist of a family of shoemakers in Spain that have been making boots and shoes for several generations.

I have no idea what the prices are like – though I have a feeling that they are probably of the ‘If you need to ask…’ variety – but whatever the cost, for boots that nice looking they are probably worth it.

The only problem I have is that the boots they make are completely impractical for what I need my new boots to do, so I have bought some of these instead.

However, the next time that I am in the market for some new motorcycle boots I know now where I will be buying them from, whatever they cost.

There’s a curious news situation going on here in Europe today.

All of the news sources of any significance, including the BBC, are running headline near-saturation coverage on the death of Edward Kennedy in the United States.

Yet, aside from some Irish, I have not met or heard of one single European today who cares, other than perhaps in a kind of “An old guy died? That’s a shame, but it happens…” way. That’s the way I feel too. Sure we have heard of his name, but that’s really all.

The European press have clearly now realised this as they are starting to try to make us think that we should care, but we still don’t as the best they can do is stuff like this;

Anchor; “So tell us why he was such an important figure”.

American being interviewed: “Well, he was extremely important, he was family of JFK, for example, and he was almost like a president himself”.

That’s just not going to do it for Europeans. We don’t know the guy, and never did.

So, maybe we can have some other news now that doesn’t assume that we are all Americans? Because we’re not, you know.

Reports have emerged of people intentionally mixing with friends who have flu.’

I’m willing to bet that, as risky as it sounds, going out and deliberately ‘catching’ this flu at at this point in the development of the virus is probably a good idea.

Personally, I’m willing to take the risk. How about you?

Earlier this morning I noticed an interesting photo gallery in the UK’s Daily Telegraph; A collection of the most expensive and most worthless items in the world.

All of the items shown are without a doubt expensive, but as for them all being ultimately worthless? I’m not so sure.

This watch, for example.

DualTow watch by Christophe Claret

The DualTow watch by Christophe Claret retails for $300,000, but it only displays the time to the nearest five minutes’. As the people behind the blog say: “So you’re paying for a, seemingly, needlessly complicated watch that doesn’t actually tell you the correct time.”

Does only being able to tell the time to within five minutes make that watch worthless? Not in my opinion.

And would I like one of those watches myself? Yes I would.
