For a long while I have been meaning to write a realistic description of the ‘Portuguese way of life’, as Dog knows there are enough Googlers ending up here after searching for one.
Luckily, though, I see that Lucy has beaten me to it;
“The “Portuguese way of life” is a strange myth invented by the British and the Germans and the Dutch who all come here in search of it, but that’s their problem. It’s just warmer, the fish is fresher and the beer is cheaper. Most other things, like working, laundry, washing-up, traffic jams, in-laws, sore feet, etc., are pretty similar, so get over it, you forrins.”
So there you are, if you want to know what the ‘Portuguese way of life’ is really all about, just read the paragraph above, and if that doesn’t do it for you, go read some more.

The North Circular Road To Hell And Wembley
In truth, and despite what many people assume, there are actually very few things about London that I miss or even particularly remember after having lived away for so many years, but there are just a few things, both good and bad, that can never be forgotten.
One of the bad things, most certainly, is the North Circular Road. It is truly the road to, from, and probably thought up in, hell.
Tomorrow, when England and Andorra play at Wembley Stadium, it appears that there is probably going to be a tube strike, and with no tubes running the only real way to get to Wembley from many points is, yep, you guessed it; via the North Circular Road.
Seventy. Thousand. Fans. All trying to get to Wembley. On the North Circular Road.
Count me right out.
High-accuracy GPS track, uploaded live at the time, from a gas station near my place to one of the best beaches on Earth; Praia do Trafal.
Thirteen point six kilometers.
Life is sweet.
Here is a quick phonecam video made yesterday morning at Praia do Trafal, Algarve, Portugal.
This is the beach that is about fifteen minutes walk along the sand from Praia do Almargem. The town that can be seen in the distance is Quarteira.
For those who asked, I really have no idea as to how busy either of these beaches get during the summer. I’ll no doubt find out when the time comes.
