Last year, tomatoes, peppers, chillis, aubergines and a host of other things.

This year, flowers. Lots of them.

On the reverse of each of those packets in the photo there are instructions and supposed requirements for the depth the seeds should be planted at, the spaces between each and so on. (Click image for bigger).

Seed Planting Instructions

Obviously, I have taken no notice whatsoever of those and simply put all of the seeds from all of the different packets together in one packet, then shaken it to mix them all together, and then sprinkled the resulting mixture into a big bunch of empty pots.

I figure that is how nature does it, and if it is good enough for nature – it’s good enough for me.

Will it work? I’ll have to wait and see.

Note: the above isn’t really guerilla gardening as you can’t really guerilla garden your own patio; this is real guerilla gardening.

It has been an interesting day for The Atheist Bus Campaign:

The UK Advertising Standards Authority has ruled in our favour, decided not to investigate the 326 complaints about the Atheist Bus Campaign adverts, and closed the case. Hurray!

It’s a great day for freedom of speech in Britain. Atheists are officially allowed to be represented in public for the very first time (adverts are not pre-vetted by legal organisations before they go up) and a rational counter-view can now be visible at any point to balance out evangelical advertising.

Most people have recognised that ours is a gentle, philosophical advert aimed at non-believers and fearful agnostics. We’re really pleased that the ASA has recognised this too. At last, we have a truly free voice – and it feels good.

See the official post over on the ABC website.

And the official adjudication:

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has concluded that the “There’s probably no God” bus ad campaign by the British Humanist Association is not in breach of the advertising code. The ASA will therefore not launch an investigation and the case is now closed.

Here is the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority adjudication in full.

We are urgently campaigning to prevent the execution of Troy Davis in Georgia, USA. Troy was sentenced to death after being convicted of a crime he maintains he did not commit.

In the 17 years he has been on death row seven of the nine non-police witnesses have recanted or changed their testimony, several citing police coercion. Troy Davis was granted a stay of execution on September 23, less than two hours before he was due to be executed. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court have declined Davis’ appeal for a proper hearing or a re-trial. The Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles have set his new execution date in Georgia as 7pm local Georgia time on 27 October. Troy’s life again hangs by a thread.

We are doing everything in our power to prevent the execution of Troy Davis, help us

Ariane Sherine is having a blast over on the UK Guardian with her Atheist Bus Campaign.

“The atheist bus campaign launches today thanks to Comment is free readers. Because of your enthusiastic response to the idea of a reassuring God-free advert being used to counter religious advertising, the slogan “There’s probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life” could now become an ad campaign on London buses – and leading secularists have jumped on board to help us raise the money.”

She started off looking for donations to reach her £5,500 target, but, as at the time I’m writing this, the donations have already hit £102,492.93. Amazing.

She has also set up the Atheist Campaign.Org website, which is pretty good and sure to get better as more people get involved.

It’s all good stuff this, I tell you. From small beginnings come great…etc.

The ‘website served from my cellphone’ experiment (original MWS post here) is going surprisingly well.

Originally I was pretty dubious as to just how stable the Mobile Web Server software was going to be but it has, so far, been almost flawless. Not bad for beta software that is still very much ‘under construction’.

Time permitting, today I plan to alter the stock .css to give the mobsite a different look and so I have copied the css files from the phone to my Powerbook using Nokia Multimedia Transfer, as doing css work is going to be easier on the laptop than on the phone screen.

I have also just switched my N95 over from connecting the MWS via my local wireless LAN to connecting via either 3G or 3.5G (depending on which the phone can find available at the time. It tends to switch between the two – and sometimes back to GPRS – when I am inside and at home as I will be today).

Right now it is connecting via 3.5G most of the time and occasionally dropping to 3G, and my mobsite is working fine with that. I’m not sure if it will be ok should the connection drop briefly to GPRS later as local network traffic increases. I suspect that the phone will struggle to serve the website via GPRS, but time will tell.

Another update soon, but generally speaking the overall stability and performance of the MWS is surprisingly good.

I have been using some interesting new cellphone software today; Mobile Web Server.

A full description of the software and it’s capabilities is under the link above, but basically it is server software that will run on Series 60 devices such as my Nokia N95.

Using this Mobile Web Server software, anyone with the correct type of phone can run their website or weblog, or whatever, from…absolutely anywhere.

When I say ‘run’ I do not just mean that a person can administrate the website. I mean that they can run the site as in the entire thing, and if they so desired, they can run the entire thing – from their pocket.

There is plenty of in depth information under the link above and in further links leading off there, too.

For my part, this afternoon I put the software and the concept to the test and sure enough, after an hour or so of figuring it all out (it is not difficult to do) here is my ‘Mobsite’ rogi.mymobilesite.net running, as promised by Nokia, totally from my cellphone.*

Excellent.

*Note. As my test website is quite literally running on my cellphone, if I at some point switch the phone off – there will obviously be no website to see. If you do follow the link and arrive at just my holding page there, that will be why. In that case try later maybe, or if you are really keen to see the software and cellphone combo in action contact me via the contact page on this site (link top right) and ask me to switch the server/phone on.
