Twitter Is Evil?

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

It apparently is according to some quotes contained in this article:

‘And Now It’s Twitter That’s Evil’

Personally, I don’t think that twitter is evil at all, which is just as well as if twitter is evil then so must be identi.ca, and if identi.ca is evil then that would mean that I am evil too.

Twiddict

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Twiddict is a useful new service for anyone addicted to twittering away all day every day (and yes, that does include me).

We love Twitter. We hate when it’s down. If you’re addicted to Twitter as well, tweet your heart out through Twiddict and avoid life-changing withdrawal symptoms during Twitter downtime. We’ll make sure your tweets end up where they belong.

No more withdrawal symptoms. In theory.

The possible problem with this idea is that if Twiddict works as well as it is supposed to, then they too will be flooded with users and may end up with similar problems to those of Twitter.

We will see.

A Solution To Twitter’s Woes?

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

If Twitter were smart, they’d make a single user version of the site (interactive with other single user versions, like bitTorrent) and sell that to every one of their users for $10. Each purchaser can host it on their own Linux box. Not only does this give them a way to earn money, but it distributes the server load across an entire network, instead of only on the Twitter servers. – Joshua Voiz.

This sounds to me like the best idea yet as regards fixing Twitter and it’s problems. As long as it didn’t place too much strain on my server I would probably buy it.

Twitter, Twhirl And TwitPic

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I discovered a great combination of apps that enable some neat Twitter tricks today.

First up; to get the following all linked up and working you are obviously going to need a Twitter account, if you don’t have one already.

Then go grab the Twitter desktop client twhirl. It is an Adobe Air app so works on Mac or Windows.

Finally, open an account at TwitPic.

All of these things are free, incidentally.

Ok, so now you have twhirl on your desktop. twhirl allows for desktop posting of ‘tweets’ to your Twitter account. You also now have your new TwitPic account. You can use TwitPic alone on the web to post TwitPic photo links to Twitter, but much better than that is that twhirl natively supports the posting of images and tweets to TwitPic, which in turn then posts your tweet, and a link to your image that is displayed within TwitPic, to Twitter.

With me so far? I know, there is a lot of ‘twit’ and ‘twhirl’ going on in this post, but it is not as crazy as it appears. Honestly.

Basically, once you have set up the above, you will end up with a way to post a tweet, with a pic, from your desktop to TwitPic, which then in turn will post your tweet and a link to your TwitPic pic on to Twitter.

You can also send tweets and pics to TwitPic to post on to Twitter via email, but we won’t go there in this post – it looks complicated enough already, even though it really is not complicated once you remember which ‘twit’ or ‘twhirl’ or ‘pic’ does what. :)
