Raisins And Grapes = Toxic For Dogs

Monday, November 30th, 2009

An important reminder now that the holiday season is approaching; raisins and grapes can kill dogs.

‘This is not to say you need live in fear of your dog keeling over dead if he swallows a grape or two. However, if he downs a handful of grapes or even a smaller amount of raisins, get him to your veterinarian right away. Aggressive treatment with intravenous fluids and close monitoring are his best chance for survival.’

At this time of the year there are often a lot of cakes, biscuits, puddings, deserts and so on around that contain grapes and/or raisins. Do not allow your dog to eat any of these things as grapes and raisins are highly toxic to dogs and can easily kill them.

There are more details here on this old post of mine: Raisin the alarm, do not poison your dogs.

Take heed as dogs will eat foods containing these things given a chance.  Make sure that it is a chance they do not get.

Web: Portuguese Recipe Blog

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Just a quick pointer to an excellent foody blog featuring Portuguese recipes:

–> As Minhas Receitas. (Portuguese language only).

It’s written by a lady who lives not far from me, and she posts up seriously nice recipes that are not difficult to make, or to find the ingredients for.

A great resource for foodies and cooks, especially at this time of the year.

Dao Red Wine; Which One?

Monday, November 20th, 2006

We all know that Dão red wine is the best red wine in Portugal, right? (Right?). So, here is a question for you real Portuguese;

Which Dão is the best, in your opinion. It’s all very well saying it is the best type (and I agree, so far), but there are so many different labels.

I want to get some for Christmas, maybe a case or something, but rather than just guess which label to go for, or pick one at randon as I normally do, I’m interested in hearing some of your preferences. So all recommendations welcome!

Leave a comment or drop me a note, will you?

Thanks.
